Biochar project wins major funding for protection of rain forests in Congo

Caption: Biochar short-circuits this cycle, by trapping some of the carbon contained in biomass and by transforming it into a recalcitrant form (char) that is sequestered in agricultural soils. During this process, called pyrolysis, useful energy is released that can be used for the production of electricity.
